Starting this week, a new step will be taken to bring the International Community and Colombians closer to the Second Review Conference of the State Parties of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction, with the launch of the event’s webpage. The Summit’s webpage’s launch ceremony will take place on August 28th within the framework of the International Seminar on Antipersonnel Mine Victims’ Assistance in Medellin, and it will publicize the different services and web strategy designed by the Vice-Presidency of the Republic in order to broadcast this event’s information.
The launch is part of the activities to be held before the Cartagena Summit on a mine-free world, which will take place in Cartagena de Indias from November 29th to December 4th, 2009.
The Summit’s webpage will offer information on the Second Review Conference’s objectives, its activities, news, information about Colombia as host country of such an important event and overall information on Cartagena as its venue. Likewise, the website has a registration system for the delegates of the Convention’s 156 State Parties, as well as the Observing Countries and Organizations related to the antipersonnel mines’ issue in the world who will participate in the Conference.
Furthermore, the Second Review Conference will join the top social networks such as Facebook and Twitter as to provide permanent, updated and appropriate information on the event. Moreover, pictures and videos from the Summit’s day-to-day will be posted on Flickr and Youtube, as well as the parallel events and activities to be carried out within the framework of the “Road to Cartagena”, which is made by the preparatory events for the Summit.
Moreover, a blog will be open to the participation of representatives from the Countries, national Government entities, national and international NGOs working on the matter, the academy and citizens in general, aiming to become a place for reflection on the matters related to the Summit.
