The Cartagena Action Plan

The Cartagena Action Plan has been adopted by the international community, finalizing five days of work of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention. “This plan spells out in concrete terms what we will do to better meet the needs of landmine survivors,” said the Cartagena Summit President, Susan Eckey of Norway. “It is a strong plan that will require a shared commitment to be implemented. Doing so will get us closer to our aim of a world without anti-personnel mines.”

The United States is pleased to attend the Ottawa Convention’s Review Conference for the first time. We congratulate Colombia for hosting this important conference. In 1997 the International Campaign to Ban Landmines gathered 855,000 signatures on a petition that eventually spurred the reaction of the Ottawa Convention.

For the first time in the walled city’s history, over five thousand people will leave their mark for a mine-free world in the ‘Cartagena 5K’ circuit. This sporting event is part of a series of activities framed within the context of the ‘Second Review Conference of the Mine Ban Convention’, to be held in that city from November 29th to December 4th.
